Will the budget 2007 put more financial burden on the Maltese taxpayers?

Results of 17th October 2006

In the meantime the budget 2007 has been published. Even before it was made public you could read in the press that the taxpayers should not suffer more from the budget this time and that some taxes should even be lowered. But do the Maltese people always believe what they hear in the media? So the pre-budget question was 'Will the budget 2007 put more financial burden on the Maltese taxpayers?'.

Between 1st and 17th October 2006 well over 200 people participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!

Here the details:

263 votes were cast in this poll.

Unfortunately, there were 11 people who voted more than one time. The votes of these 11 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain a result which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 234.

Here the percentages that the various answers got:
Yes:                              108 votes   =   46,15 %
No:                               110 votes   =   47,01 %
I don't know:                      16 votes   =    6,84 %

INTERPRETATIONS:

This means that a majority really believed what they had heard before. They did not expect more financial burden in the upcoming budget. But only one per cent less were sceptical and expected higher taxes and charges. A bit less than seven per cent of the voters did not know what to answer to the question.

The editor would like to point out, that this poll is not representative for the whole country. However, it gives a clear indication anyway.

The people were aware of the upcoming budget, but still devided in the question of whether they can trust their political representatives or not.

As we know now, 47 per cent were right. The budget 2007 did not put more financial burden on the taxpayers.
