Which coalition government would you prefer?

Results of 30th November 2006

The election polls of the past months have shown that none of the two big parties (neither PN nor MLP) would get enough votes to govern on their own. A coalition government would be necessary in order to obtain a majority in parliament.

But for coalitions there are not too many options. Either PN and AD form a coalition, or MLP and AD, or PN and MLP which would be a so called Grand Coalition between the two biggest fractions.

Between 10th and 30th November 2006 over 300 people participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!

Here the details:

353 votes were cast in this poll.

Unfortunately, there were 12 people who voted more than one time. The votes of these 12 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain a result which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 320.

Here the percentages that the various answers got:
PN & AD:                          201 votes   =   62,81 %
MLP & AD:                          96 votes   =   30,00 %
PN & MLP:                          23 votes   =   13,94 %
Other Parties:                     11 votes   =    1,49 %
Non Voters:                        68 votes   =    9,20 %

INTERPRETATIONS:

This means that for the first time since 1962 the Maltese parliament would host 3 parties. And to obtain a majority a government would have to consist of at least two parties, so a coalition government would become reality.

The editor would like to point out, that this poll is not representative for the whole country. However, it gives a clear indication anyway.

The current government party PN would again be the strongest fraction in parliament, the second strongest would be MLP. Both big parties would win back more votes from AD, but the number of NonVoters would also inincrease to almost ten per cent.

Still the big winner, although it lost compared to last months' polls, would be
Alternattiva Demokratika (the Maltese Greens).

This shows very well, that the Maltese people still want a third party in parliament and that neither PN nor MLP have as much support as they used to have over the past few decades.

For democracy a 3 party parliament would definitely be healthy.
