Which party would you vote for, if general elections were held today?


Results of 20th January 2007


Are you satisfied with the various parties' work? Do you think that the government shall be voted out of power and the opposition shall take over? Or do you think that Malta needs even a coalition between two parties? Or don't you want any changes?
General elections are still far away (in 2007 or 2008). But what if.... What if general elections were held today? Which party would you vote for?

Between 10th and 20th January 2007 well over 1,000 people participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!

Here the details:

1147 votes were cast in this poll.
Unfortunately, there were 33 people who voted more than one time. The votes of these 33 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain a result which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 1024.

Here the percentages that the various answers got:
PN (Nationalist Party):           398 votes   =   38,87 %
MLP (Malta Labour Party):         314 votes   =   30,66 %
AD (Green Party):                 197 votes   =   19,24 %
Other Parties:                     11 votes   =    1,07 %
Non Voters:                       104 votes   =   10,16 %


INTERPRETATIONS:

This means that for the first time since 1962 the Maltese parliament would host 3 parties. And to obtain a majority a government would have to consist of at least two parties, so a coalition government would become reality.

The editor would like to point out, that this poll is not representative for the whole country. However, it gives a clear indication anyway.

The current government party PN would again be the strongest fraction in parliament, the second strongest would be MLP. Compared to last month's election poll PN and AD are the clear winners while MLP lost voters as well as the number of NonVoters decreased.

The big winner would again be Alternattiva Demokratika (the Maltese Greens).

This shows very well, that the Maltese people still want a third party in parliament and that neither PN nor MLP have as much support as they used to have over the past few decades.

For democracy a 3 party parliament would definitely be healthy.
