Which party would you vote for, if general elections were held today?
Results of 24th March 2007
Are you satisfied with the various parties' work? Do you think that the government shall be voted out of power and the opposition shall take over? Or do you think that Malta needs even a coalition between two parties? Or don't you want any changes?
General elections are still far away (later in 2007 or 2008). But what if.... What if general elections were held today? Which party would you vote for?
Between 12th and 24th March 2007 well over 800 people participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!
Here the details:
844 votes were cast in this poll.
Unfortunately, there were 22 people who voted more than one time. The votes of these 22 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain a result which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 808.
Here the percentages that the various answers got:
PN (Nationalist Party): 263 votes = 32,55 %
MLP (Malta Labour Party): 261 votes = 32,30 %
AD (Green Party): 159 votes = 19,68 %
Other Parties: 7 votes = 0,87 %
Non Voters: 118 votes = 14,60 %
INTERPRETATIONS: This means that for the first time since 1962 the Maltese parliament would host 3 parties. And to obtain a majority a government would have to consist of at least two parties, so a coalition government would become reality.
The editor would like to point out, that this poll is not representative for the whole country. However, it gives a clear indication anyway.
The current government party PN would again be the strongest fraction in parliament (although it would be very tight), the second strongest would be MLP. Compared to last month's election poll there are only 2 figures which changed, those of PN and the NonVoters. MLP and AD remained at exactly the same level as last month. But PN lost some votes (almost 5%) to those people who would not cast their vote in the election.
The big winner would again be Alternattiva Demokratika (the Maltese Greens) as they would enter parliament.
This shows very well, that the Maltese people still want a third party in parliament and that neither PN nor MLP have as much support as they used to have over the past few decades.
For democracy a 3 party parliament would definitely be healthy.
