What is the main reason for the GWU's current problems?

Results of 30th November 2006

The General Workers' Union is not doing too well at the moment. More members are leaving the union than new ones can be won.

What are the reasons for this? What is the main reason for this?

Between 12th and 30th November 2006 more than 280 people participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!

Here the details:

327 votes were cast in this poll.

Unfortunately, there were 13 people who voted more than one time. The votes of these 13 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain a result which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 288.

Here the percentages that the various answers got:

Tony Zarb's leadership:            96 votes   =   33,33 %
Internal power struggles:          71 votes   =   24,65 %
Structural problems:                5 votes   =    1,74 %
Negotiators' incompetence:         22 votes   =    7,64 %
Lack of powers of self-assertion:   6 votes   =    2,08 %
A combination of all:              44 votes   =   15,28 %
The GWU doesn't have problems!:    44 votes   =   15,28 %

INTERPRETATIONS:

One thrid of the votes are concentrated on one of the possible seven answers. 33,33 % make Tony Zarb responsible for the GWU's problems. About a quarter of the people think that internal power struggles cause the problems. These two answers show very well what picture the public has about the GWU and its administration.
It is also worth to mention that fifteen per cent do not see any problems at the GWU.

The editor would like to point out, that this poll is not representative for the whole country. However, it gives a clear indication anyway.

This poll might help the GWU to overcome the current negative image it has in public.
