What will be legalised first in Malta?

Results of 31st March 2007

The discussions started when the European Union brought up the subject of the harmonisation of divorce laws. Since then various hot issues have become more present in the press. Different opinions were published, be they about divorce, abortion, prostitution, pornography or registered partnerships for same-sex couples. Some or all of the above mentioned points have become legal in a few EU countries.

How about Malta? What will be legalised first in Malta?

Between 10th and 31st March 2007 over 250 people
participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!

Here the details:

269 votes were cast in this poll.

Unfortunately, there were 11 people who voted more than one time. The votes of these 11 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain a result which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 251.

Here the percentages that the various answers got:

Divorce:                                   133 votes   =   52,99 %
Registered same-sex partnerships:           68 votes   =   27,09 %
Abortion:                                    5 votes   =    1,99 %
Prostitution:                               16 votes   =    6,37 %
Pornography:                                29 votes   =   11,56 %

INTERPRETATIONS:

More than half of the voters believe that divorce will be legalised first in Malta. More than a quarter think that registered same-sex partnerships wll find their way into legislation first. The other answers got clearly less votes.

The editor would like to point out, that this poll is not representative for the whole country. However, it gives a clear indication anyway.

This poll shows that the majority of people see divorce as most likely to be legalised first. Probably many people gave this answer, because they see the need for this. We will see what the Maltese government will do about it.
