How important do you see the Local Councils' Elections?

Results of 31st March 2007

In March part of the Maltese electorate could once again vote in the Local Councils' Elections. The turnout was much lower than at General Elections. While PN lost a few seats in the councils, MLP and AD won new councillors. What do these results tell us?

How important do you see the Local Councils' Elections?

Between 10th and 31st March 2007 over 200 people participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!

Here the details:

232 votes were cast in this poll.

Unfortunately, there were 5 people who voted more than one time. The votes of these 5 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain a result which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 220.

Here the percentages that the various answers got:
Very important:                    24 votes   =   10,91 %
Important:                         61 votes   =   27,73 %

Not so important:                  71 votes   =   32,27 %
Not important at all:              64 votes   =   29,09 %

INTERPRETATIONS:

The Local Councils' Elections are not seen as very important by the majority of voters. Only one tenth state that these elections are very important. Less than thirty per cent say that the elections are important. But there are over sixty per cent in total which see these elections as either not so important or even not important at all. The "winner" of this online poll is the statement that the elections are not so important (almost one third of the votes).

The editor would like to point out, that this poll is not representative for the whole country. However, it gives a clear indication anyway.

The results of this poll show clearly that the Local Councils' Elections do not have the same status as other elections. It is only understandable as the local councils themselves do not have much power to change things and to satisfy the electorate.
