Do the Maltese parties/unions/organisations provide you with enough information about the European Union?

Results of 30th November 2006

More than two and a half years have passed since Malta joined the European Union. Since 1st May 2004 Malta is a full EU member state with all priviliges and duties.

What do the Maltese people think about it? And how much do they know about the EU? Do they get enough information?

Between 12th and 30th November 2006 around 120 people participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!

Here the details:

127 votes were cast in this poll.

Unfortunately, there were 4 people who voted more than one time. The votes of these 4 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain a result which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 118.

Here the percentages that the various answers got:
Yes:                               39 votes   =   33,05 %
No:                                79 votes   =   32,77 %
I can't say.:                      30 votes   =   25,21 %

INTERPRETATIONS:

A majority of voters have benefited from the country's EU membership. More than fourty per cent answered the question with a 'Yes'. But there are also more than thirty per cent who aren't better off now. This number is still high and shall be taken seriously by the Maltese politicians, but also by the EU administration. A quarter of the people could not give a clear answer.

The editor would like to point out, that this poll is not representative for the whole country. However, it gives a clear indication anyway.

The poor participation in this poll shows that the country's EU membership is not a top issue anymore. It is not seen as important as years back. And people have accepted the situation and they have got used to it.
