Which AirLink between Malta and Gozo do you favourise?

Results of 20th February 2007

After the helicopter service between Malta and Gozo stopped operating new proposals for a quick airlink between the sister islands were made. The administrator of this website himself (Mr Martin Büttner) threw the idea of a seaplane link between the Grand Harbour and the Mgarr Harbour into the discussions. A few weeks later it was announced that a service operated by seaplanes should indeed be given preference. But there are still other options which have their pros and cons.

Which AirLink between Malta and Gozo do you favourise??

Between 12th and 24th February 2007 more than 300 people participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!

Here the details:

325 votes were cast in this poll.

Unfortunately, there were 10 people who voted more than one time. The votes of these 10 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain a result which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 305.

Here the percentages that the various answers got:

Seaplane (Grand Harbour - Mgarr Harbour):  119 votes   =   39,02 %
Seaplane (Luqa Airport - Mgarr Harbour):    45 votes   =   14,75 %
Helicopter (Luqa Airport - Gozo Heliport):  38 votes   =   12,46 %
Aeroplane (Luqa Airport - Gozo Airport*):  103 votes   =   33,77 %

* The existing Gozo Heliport would need to be transformed into an airport with an airstrip that is long enough for small planes to take-off and land.

INTERPRETATIONS:

Almost 40 per cent favourise the option of a seaplane from harbour to harbour. But there is also a good number of voters in favour of a fixed-wing aircraft linking the two sister islands. This option however would need much more investment as the existing Gozo Heliport would need to be transformed into an airport with a suitable airstrip. The other seaplane option where the Luqa Airport would be involved gets almost 15 per cent. The least support has a new helicopter service with a bit more than 10 per cent only.

The editor would like to point out, that this poll is not representative for the whole country. However, it gives a clear indication anyway.

This poll shows that there are two options which would find good support amongst the Maltese: Either using a plane from harbour to harbour or a plane from airport to airport.
