Mission Statements of the Parties

Due to the increasing popularity of www.malta-surveys.com the party leaders were given the opportunity to use this website as a platform and explaining in a few words WHY the people should vote for them or their party.

www.malta-surveys.com: Why should the people vote for you or your party?

- Dr. Lawrence Gonzi (Party Leader of PN – Partit Nazzjonalista):

The 8 March election calls upon all of us to decide which party is best suited to lead the country into the future.
My party faces polling day with a track record.
We delived EU membership and the euro. We delivered investment and economic growth. We delivered jobs and we reduced unemployment to a 12 year low.
We also delivered in education, health and environment - investment in each of the three sectors and the number of projects delivered has never been higher.
But we are not satisifed.
We want to do more and we have the ideas and the energy to do so. We also acknowledge that we could have done better in certain areas. On planning, for instance, I am committed to move MEPA under the direct responsibility of the Prime Minister.
We also acknowledge that we are here because we worked together. This is why my party stands on a clear platform - “Yes, together, we can make it possible”. Again.

- Dr. Alfred Sant (Party Leader of MLP – Malta Labour Party):

A Labour government will implement our “Plan for a New Beginning” to give this country the change it aspires for. We will launch programmes to build on Malta’s current and potential strengths, targeting an annual growth rate for our economy at between 4 to 6 per cent, real. Hi tech and traditional manufacturing, tourism, information technology, financial and maritime services will all be given dynamic encouragement. Bureaucracy will be slashed along the line. And as we go for growth, we will modernise and boost the education and health sectors, where we will adopt the best European practices while putting a new priority on effective environmental initiatives. The hallmark of Labour’s approach will be good governance, as contrasted to the conflicts of interest, the incompetence and the corruption that characterise today’s administration. Labour will show zero tolerance towards corruption at all levels.

- Dr. Harry Vassallo (Chairperson of AD – Alternattiva Demokratika):

Today many of us realise that single-party governments have permitted the wholesale destruction of our environment, the deterioration of our quality of life and the domination of our government's policies by a small knot of party financier speculators exposing us all to tremendous economic risks. Nobody seems to be able to control the construction industry and the government appears altogether immune to criticism. The Greens are recognised to be just the party to provide an effective check to arrogance and unaccountability. With the Greens in a coalition government these issues can finally come to the fore. Such a coalition will be a meeting point of unity in an otherwise deeply divided country. We know how to develop this superb sentiment for the benefit of all: a profound culture change. We firmly believe that the 8th of March will be the start of this change.

- Dr. Josie Muscat (Party Leader of AN – Azzjoni Nazzjonali):

I was elected to Parliament at the age of 22. I saw Malta achieve Independence and I saw Civil Liberties threatened and fought to save them even at the cost of being shot at in the fields of Zejtun. I now see that tremendous achievement in danger of erosion by the dominance of one political entity called the MLPN which strives to choke off other representative voices, by the wide-spread corruption in public life and by the deterioration of those family values that have united Maltese society and helped it achieve, defend and maintain its unique identity.
Azzjoni Nazzjonali is giving the electorate a chance to change all this.

- Norman Lowell (Party Leader of IE – Imperium Europa):

In 1968 Enoch Powell warned the British of what was in store for them.
Today, Britain regrets it did not head his words.
A lapel pin that sells like hot cakes says: Powell was right.
Now, if Powell was right - why should Lowell be wrong?
Lowell is speaking like Powell - addressing the same issue as Powell.
Powell was right - Lowell is right.
Lowell: The Only Vote that Counts!

- Dr. Emmy Bezzina (Party Leader of ALDRPP – Alpha Liberal Democratic Reformist Political Party)

We have a Modern Logo related to our Modern Politics in Modern Malta which we evaluate as a cosmopolitan, pluralistic liberal Democracy: an overall policy which no other Party upholds in practice. ALPHA does not waste time discussing or criticizing other Parties. We look forward to assert a Modern Malta manipulated by no particular Faith and We want to eradicate the almost fundamental notion that in our country only RED or BLUE counts : regrettably 80 % of our Electorate are still in this doldrums situation – ALPHA wants to eradicate this fundamental ignorance which is constantly causing much harm to the overall well-being of our tiny Island State an integral part of the European Union in which ALPHA believes wholeheartedly as a must for this country to go forward.
These objectives are paramount to our liberal, democratic, reformist party.

- Dr. John Zammit (Party Leader of ALD – Alleanza Liberal-Demokratika)

We appeal to all Maltese and Gozitans alike so that for the coming general elections they free their minds and vote as if they are in the European Parliament where there are several groupings and if they elect a Liberal member of Parliament in the Maltese Parliament they will have support of the third largest political group after the Conservatives EPP and the Socialists PES.
With this in mind and with a liberal member of parliament we in Malta for the first time will have diversity in thinking and more liberal policies so much so that we will get rid of the two party system which brought frustration to everybody, be it a Nationalist or a Labour Government which always end the same... people grambling and frustration!
