What are the main reasons for power cuts in Malta?

Results of 30th June 2007

Lately the country has suffered from various power cuts. Some areas of the islands were without electricity for more than a day, and not just once.

But why? What happened? What are the main reasons for power cuts in Malta?

Between 15th and 30th June 2007 well over 200 people
participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!

Here the details:

219 votes were cast in this poll.

Unfortunately, there were 8 people who voted more than one time. The votes of these 8 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain a result which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 208.

Here the percentages that the various answers got:

Technical equipment's bad state:            39 votes   =   18,75 %
Power stations are just too small:          29 votes   =   13,94 %
Insufficiency of personnel:                 24 votes   =   11,54 %
A combination of all:                      108 votes   =   51,92 %
None of all - Just an Act of God!:           8 votes   =    3,85 %

INTERPRETATIONS:

More than half of the voters believe that a combination of various points (technical equipment's bad state, power stations too small, insufficiency of personnel) are responsible for the power cuts. Almost one fifth makes specifically the bad state of the equipment responsible. Lack in capacity of the power stations and personnel's insufficiency get a bit more than ten per cent of the votes each. 8 people stated that they believe in an Act of God when the lights go off.

The editor would like to point out, that this poll is not representative for the whole country. However, it gives a clear indication anyway.

This poll sends out a clear signal: Invest in infrastructure! The power stations are too old and too small. Urgent action is required!
