Should prostitution be legalised in Malta?

Results of 20th April 2007

The discussions started when the European Union brought up the subject of the harmonisation of divorce laws. Since then also the hot issue of prostitution has become more present in the press. Different opinions were published, be they in favour or against the legalisation of prostitution. In other EU countries prostitution is legal, prostitutes are even organised in trade unions. But not in Malta.

Should this be changed? Should prostitution be legalised in Malta?

Between 10th and 20th April 2007 over 450 people
participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!

Here the details:

472 votes were cast in this poll.

Unfortunately, there were 11 people who voted more than one time. The votes of these 11 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain a result which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 453.

Here the percentages that the various answers got:

Yes:                                       245 votes   =   54,08 %
No:                                        208 votes   =   45,92 %

INTERPRETATIONS:

Just a bit more than half of the voters are in favour of the legalisation of prostitution in Malta.

The editor would like to point out, that this poll is not representative for the whole country. However, it gives a clear indication anyway.

This is a voting against the Catholic teaching and in favour of the adaption to the times that have changed and where women should have the right to take more decisions about their own body themselves.
The poll shows that a majority of people are in favour of prostitution.
We will see what the Maltese government will do about it.
