Are you afraid of the increasing Xenophobia across Malta?

Results of 31st August 2006

It is a fact that xenophobia across the Maltese is increasing. One major reason is the problem of irregular immigrants. Their number is increasing constantly? Also the bad behaviour of a number of Libyan Arabs (there have been incidents of rape, stabbing, burglary and murder) is a reason. Are the Maltese people concerned about this increasing xenophobia?

Between 10th and 24th August 2006 well over 300 people participated in this online poll. Thank you very much!

Here the details:

358 votes were cast in this poll.

Unfortunately, there were 6 people who voted more than one time. The votes of these 6 people had to be made invalid in order to obtain a result which is more honest and true.
So the number of valid votes was 330.

Here the percentages that the various answers got:
Yes:                              160 votes   =   48,48 %
No:                               118 votes   =   35,76 %
I don't care:                      52 votes   =   15,76 %

INTERPRETATIONS:

Almost half of the voters are aware of the problem and even afraid of the increasing xenophobia. About one third doesn't see a problem and fifteen per cent keep their eyes shut and don't care about the problem at all.

The editor would like to point out, that this poll is not representative for the whole country. However, it gives a clear indication anyway.

It is important to be aware of the problem of xenophobia. Xenophobia has caused many brutal and even deadly incidents worldwide, even in the so called civilised western world. It is often more comfortable to make other people, preferably foreigners, responsible for problems. In Malta people should and are aware of this, at least half the voters state this.
